Helping You & Your Children Manage Myopia

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a common eye condition that affects children and young adults by making distance vision blurry. It typically develops during early childhood and can impact a child’s performance both inside and outside the classroom.

Through regular pediatric eye exams and proven myopia control strategies such as MiSight and ortho-k lenses, our team at Denver Eye Care & Eyewear Gallery can manage your child’s vision and protect their long-term eye health.

The best time to begin myopia control is right away. Contact us to schedule an appointment today.

What Is Myopia Control?

Myopia often worsens as children grow. While standard eyeglasses and traditional contacts correct blurry vision, they do not slow the progression of nearsightedness. Myopia control refers to specialized treatments designed to slow down how quickly a child’s prescription changes, safeguarding their long-term sight and quality of life.

We offer several advanced myopia control options, including:

    • MiSight® 1 Day contact lenses
    • Ortho-K (Orthokeratology) contact lenses
    • Stellest™ myopia control glasses
    • Low-dose atropine eye drops

The Signs & Symptoms
of Myopia

Children may not always realize or express that something is wrong with their vision. However, parents can watch for several common warning signs:

  • Squinting to see distant objects
  • Frequent eye strain or headaches
  • Blurry vision when looking at faraway objects
  • Sitting unusually close to screens or the TV

If you notice any of these symptoms in your children, the first step is to schedule a comprehensive eye exam with our care team.

The Link Between
Myopia & Learning

When a child struggles with their sight, it directly impacts their academic success and confidence. Uncorrected myopia makes reading the board, participating in classroom activities, and playing sports difficult.

Vision-related learning challenges can lead to frustration and cause children to fall behind academically. Our team works directly with you and your child to identify vision issues early and build a targeted treatment plan.

Our Myopia Control Strategies

At Denver Eye Care & Eyewear Gallery, we understand that each child’s needs are unique. Our team will work with you to develop a personalized myopia control plan that is right for your child.

We create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere where your child feels at ease. We’ll also answer any questions or concerns you may have about the different myopia control methods we offer.

MiSight 1 Day Contact Lenses

MiSight 1 day lenses are soft contact lenses specifically designed for myopia control in children. These lenses are comfortable to wear and help correct and slow the progression of myopia in children.

  • Proven Effectiveness: Clinical studies show MiSight lenses slow myopia progression by an average of 59%.
  • Kid-Friendly: As daily disposables, they carry a low risk of infection. Children as young as 8 years old quickly gain confidence in putting them in and taking them out.

If your child prefers not to wear glasses during sports or school, MiSight is an ideal solution.

Orthokeratology, also known as ortho-k, uses specially designed rigid, gas-permeable contact lenses worn overnight. While your child sleeps, the lenses gently reshape the surface of the eye. In the morning, they remove the lenses and enjoy clear, natural vision all day long without needing glasses or daytime contacts—all while actively slowing myopia progression.

Stellest spectacle lenses are designed by Essilor to help control the progression of myopia while correcting your child’s vision. The lenses include a central vision area in the middle of the lens that corrects nearsightedness, and use their HALT (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target) technology around the outside of the lens to slow the progression of myopia.

Studies have shown that Stellest lenses help to slow the progression of myopia by 67% on average when worn 12 hours per day, compared to single vision lenses, which only correct nearsightedness.

Low-dose atropine eye drops are a simple, highly effective daily treatment for childhood myopia. Applied once at bedtime, these mild drops help prevent the eye from lengthening excessively without significantly affecting daytime vision or pupil size.

Corneal topography is a noninvasive imaging technique that maps the surface curvature of the eye. To ensure precision fitting and tracking, we utilize non-invasive corneal topography technology. This advanced mapping tool creates a 3D visual map of the surface of your child’s eye, allowing us to customize Ortho-K lenses and precisely measure treatment progress over time.
