Early Detection Through Your Eye Exam
The first step of your eye disease management journey is a comprehensive eye exam. During your exam, we perform a detailed assessment to detect issues early, which may include:
- Visual acuity testing
- Eye pressure measurement
- Examination of the retina and optic nerve
- Advanced imaging techniques, such as optomap imaging
Early detection is key and can help our team determine the right treatment plan for you.
Implementing Our Technology
Our team understands that accurate diagnosis and gathering all the details is the cornerstone of effective eye disease management.
Our commitment to technology is evident throughout all aspects of our practice. Our technology allows us to detect issues early, monitor disease procession, and tailor treatment plans specifically to your needs.
Your vision is precious, and we don’t take any shortcuts to preserve it.
Octopus Visual Field Testing
At Denver Eye Care & Eyewear Gallery, we use the Octopus Visual Field Analyzer to assess your peripheral vision with precision and efficiency. This advanced device is essential for diagnosing and monitoring conditions like glaucoma, neurological disorders, and retinal diseases.
The Octopus Visual Field Analyzer provides:
- Accurate detection of vision loss in its earliest stages.
- Customized testing tailored to your unique needs for maximum comfort.
- Comprehensive reports to guide effective treatment and management.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
The Topcon Maestro2 optical coherence tomography (OCT) provides our team with high-resolution cross-sectional images of the retina. This technology helps us identify early signs of retinal disorders, including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, allowing for timely, focused treatment options.
Optos Digital Photography
The Optos optomap offers wide-field retinal imaging that captures a comprehensive view of the retina. This allows us to detect and monitor conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other retinal issues that may not be visible with traditional imaging techniques.

Common Eye Diseases & Conditions
We recognize that our patients can have a variety of different issues and vision concerns and patient education is a big part of what we offer at Denver Eye Care. Eye diseases and other conditions can affect your eye health and vision in various ways, with different symptoms and causes.
By exploring different eye diseases and conditions with you, we can make you aware of some of the early warning signs of conditions that you may be at risk of developing. Regular eye exams and checkups can make all the difference in preserving your vision.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that cause damage to the optic nerve, which is responsible for sending visual information to the brain. If not detected and treated early, damage to the optic nerve can lead to vision loss and blindness.
High intraocular pressure (IOP) can be a risk factor of glaucoma and treatment often involves prescription eye drops to control eye pressure.
We also use the iCare tonometer to screen for glaucoma. This noninvasive device measures intraocular pressure (IOP) and provides accurate readings without the need for anesthesia, helping make the process comfortable and quick.
Cataracts
Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens of the eye, causing blurry vision, faded colors, and difficulty seeing at night. Cataract surgery is a safe and common procedure to replace the clouded lens with a clear artificial lens, restoring vision.
While cataracts are a natural part of aging, certain lifestyle factors like smoking and excessive sun exposure can increase the risk of developing them earlier.
We provide cataract surgery co-management services if needed and are with you every step of the way.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive disease that damages the macula, causing changes to your central vision. This damage can make things like reading and driving much more difficult. AMD is a leading cause of vision loss among older adults, and there are 2 main types:
- Dry AMD is the more common form of the disease and occurs in early, intermediate, and late stages. This form of AMD occurs when the macula thins with age.
- Wet AMD is the less common form of the disease and can cause faster and more severe vision loss. Wet AMD occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow in the back of the eye and damage the macula. Wet AMD often requires prompt care to protect your sight.
We use OCT and other technologies to help monitor and manage AMD.
Diabetic Eye Disease
Diabetes can increase your risk of developing several eye diseases and conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy, which is a primary vision loss concern for patients with diabetes.
Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that causes damage to the blood vessels of the retina.
Signs and symptoms of diabetic retinopathy can include:
- Black spots or holes in your vision
- A loss of central vision
- Blurry vision
- Difficulty seeing at night
We use optical coherence tomography (OCT) and other tests in our diabetic eye exams to get a complete picture of your eye health and recommend next steps for your health and eye care.
